Alex Márquez triumphed in a dramatic Sunday MotoGP race, edging out his brother Marc after a tense duel at the front. The race was packed with yellow flags, retirements, and bold overtakes, with Bastianini, Acosta, Quartararo, and rookie Ogura all adding to the action.
The race got underway in sunny conditions. Franco Morbidelli and Fermín Aldeguer both carried long-lap penalties for causing accidents in Saturday’s sprint. After a clean getaway, the action quickly unfolded.
Both Márquez brothers made strong starts, with Marc snatching the lead into Turn 1. Alex tried to counter at Turn 2 but couldn’t make it stick. Further back, Fabio Quartararo slipped to fourth, while Pedro Acosta seized the chance to climb into third.
At the end of lap one, the order was Marc, Alex, Acosta, Quartararo, Bastianini, Marini, Zarco, Ogura, Morbidelli, and Bezzecchi. On lap 2, yellow flags waved after contact between Bezzecchi and Morbidelli. Morbidelli was able to continue, but Bezzecchi’s race was over. Up front, Bastianini fought past Quartararo for fourth, briefly lost the spot, and then retook it. Lap 3 saw Aldeguer serve his penalty, dropping him to the back.
By lap 4, Alex Márquez had moved ahead of Marc for the lead. Bagnaia, who had endured a difficult weekend, was running ninth – his best showing so far. On lap 5, Morbidelli took one of his penalties, falling to 16th. A lap later, Alex led from Marc, with Acosta and Bastianini close behind.
The second yellow flag came when Brad Binder crashed at Turn 7, ending his race. By lap 9, Quartararo had slipped behind Zarco and was under pressure from Marini. At the front, Alex continued to control the pace.
After 10 laps, the top 10 read: Alex, Marc, Acosta, Bastianini, Zarco, Marini, Quartararo, Bagnaia, Ogura, and Fernández. Another twist came on lap 10 as Zarco went down at Turn 10, bringing out a third yellow flag. Fabio Di Giannantonio also retired soon after.
Lap 16 brought yet another incident when Álex Rins crashed in sector 4, triggering a fourth yellow. Alex still headed Marc, with Bastianini 0.7s back in third.
With six laps to go, the order was Alex, Marc, Bastianini, Acosta, Marini, Bagnaia, Ogura, Fernández, and Oliveira. Crashes from Morbidelli and Savadori in sector 3/4 produced another yellow flag.
In the final stages, Alex remained in control. With three laps left, Quartararo attacked Marini and passed him. Rookie Ai Ogura also impressed, overtaking Bagnaia into Turn 1 for seventh, then quickly dispatching Marini as well to move up to sixth.
