Le pilote français Johann Zarco a remporté la course MotoGP du Grand Prix d'Australie des motos de route, marquant ainsi sa première victoire dans la prestigieuse catégorie royale. Le pilote italien Francesco Bagnaia a terminé deuxième, ajoutant des points à son championnat et portant son avance à 27 points. En raison de prévisions météorologiques défavorables, la course elle-même a été reportée du dimanche au samedi, comme l'avaient décidé les organisateurs.
